Garnet sand is a naturally inert mineral, is a sharp, angular, twelve-sided crystal (officially a rhombic dodecahedron), with a hardness between 7.5 - 8.5 on the Mohs scale. The crystal physical properties make it a superior abrasive, ideal for most industrial applications.

 

PRODUCTION PROCESS
Extraction:
Mining: Garnet sand is extracted from alluvial deposits or mined from hard rock formations. The type of mining depends on the garnet deposit. Alluvial mining involves washing and screening, while hard rock mining involves drilling, blasting, and crushing.

Crushing and Grinding:
Primary Crushing: The extracted garnet ore is crushed into smaller pieces using jaw crushers or gyratory crushers.
Secondary Crushing: Further crushing using cone crushers or impact crushers to achieve the desired size.

Separation:
Screening: The crushed material is screened to separate garnet particles from the waste rock. This step involves using vibrating screens or sieves to classify the particles by size.
Gravity Separation: Gravity-based methods like jigging or spiral concentration are used to separate garnet from lighter impurities based on density differences.
Magnetic Separation: Magnetic separators are used to remove any magnetic minerals or impurities from the garnet sand.
